So we kept a little of Malibu’s tail & what do you know I can now wear it round my neck! 😆I was so pleased to have been gifted this customised neckless & earrings by @born_fromthe_sea. Along with some local sea shells from the beaches we ride on artist Vicky incorporated some of Malibu’s hair into the design. It’s very subtle & really lovely to have a little piece of her with me from time to time..

A little moment for our beautiful Malibu.. 🤍
She wasn’t just our pet she was a celebration of the breed of Connemara Pony that we produce in Ireland. Like many, she came to us through the ring in Cliften, a dun filly foal born 2017.
Sired by All Smoke, our new filly was easy to show as a yearling & as a 4yr old she naturally fell into motherhood. She consistently foaled over the years with little effort on our side, she literally was so unbelievably straight forward & a fantastic mother. 💪
Malibu felt like a career change when she turned 13yrs so we popped a saddle on her & followed a lead horse out the road, that’s all it took! She was always second in file when we headed out, constantly tipping her nose off my boot which meant she was close & an ideal choice for a beginner or nervous rider. This also put her in most of the snaps taken at the time 📸 🪩 🐎..
There was never a question of her genuine nature & she was an expert across hills or uneven terrain.
There was mannies a time the handiest thing to do was to just let Malibu take the lead as she had such a steady head, feared nothing & never hesitated whatever age rider asked her to go forward.
I lost count of how many people had their first walk, trot, canter or gallop on lady Malibu before she decided to pop back over to being a mom. With no problem going back in foal baby Cú soon became our newest project.
Malibu was happiest as a mom but still helped us out with the odd pony camp.
Unfortunately this year after all her hard work she passed while foaling with what we suspected was a result of hiplock. It was a total misfortune & shock at the time.
I never got around to putting up a post about her & how amazing & versatile, strong, sturdy & caring she was. The Connemara Pony is certainly a tremendous breed.
